You gotta admit the condition is pretty impressive though... But yeah, I agree with you. The worst part is that, since these people treat their cars not as goods with an actual purpose that someone might buy to enjoy, but as luxury items instead, their prices are very unlikely to go down, they simply won't sell.

Unfortunately, I think we've reached the point where the E30 M3 is now one of those cars that is out of reach for the average enthusiast.

....I'd pay $30k for an E30 M3 that clean. But not $40k.

I agree, they have been hovering around the 25-30K mark for some time.. 40K is just too much without ABS , airconditioning working..

What are you on about? The E30 M3 is a bona fide classic these days. It's not 'on the way' or a 'future classic'. It's there, and prices reflect that when they're in the correct condition. The Evos go for even more - Sport Evos fetch well over $100k now.

Yeah, even at 25-30K the average enthusiast will find it a hard to justify buying a 20 year old car..

Yup. Time to buy all the e36 m3s because in 7-10 years I think they'll head a similar direction and be worth more than they are now.

If it was maintained by a well-known and reputable garage, with bills to prove it, it would be worth a bit more.

Assuming the work has actually been done as he says, and to the right standard, the lack of documentation isn't a huge issue, though: when you buy a classic for that kind of money, you need to have a proper inspection done to verify or disprove such claims even if there is paperwork to support them.

Its a classic it it is maintained right, and E30 M3 prices have been round 30K for over a year now, atleast in the US..this one dosent have service records, ABS dosent work, AC dosent either..

So he's possibly being a little optimistic with the price. That's hardly WTF territory. If the car's in as good condition as he says, then he's asking something reasonable as a starting point for negotiations. He really ought to fix the ABS, though - that's easy and you can't drive the car without it.

My gut feeling is actually that he's probably lying about the condition and the quality and quantity of his own work, but if he's not, and he knows what he's doing, then the lack of documentation isn't a big price-mover - if you're buying a car like this for this kind of money, you get the condition checked by a competent mechanic anyway.

I know when an engine is rebuilt the rebuilder will sometimes call for a heavier weight oil. 15-40 on some occasions. Some motors built for types of racing will sometimes be built a little looser....

I read these called for 15-50 from the factory.....Is this correct?

40 Grand for a pristine, low mileage, well maintained e30 M3? Yes, I could see it.

40 grand for this one? No effing way.
